Juicing Adds Diversity to Diet

A resident of Sawyer, Michigan, Patricia K. Bestler has worked at Sawyer Home and Garden Center since 2016. In addition to assisting customers with plants, trees, and landscaping, Patricia K. Bestler works in the center’s retail section and prepares fresh, organic foods and juices.

Juicing, which involves extracting juice from fresh fruits and vegetables, is a great way to incorporate more vitamins and minerals into a diet. While it is still important to eat fruits and vegetables daily, juicing is an effective way to increase consumption of a wide variety of nutrients.

A juicer is a convenient tool, though juicing can also be done by blending fruits and vegetables in a blender and straining the pulp out using a mesh strainer or cheesecloth. To avoid missing out on the fiber that is lost in juicing, many people add the pulp back to the juice or use it to cook. Fiber from fruit, for example, makes a great addition to muffin batter. To add protein to juice, consider adding almond milk, yogurt, or peanut butter.
